Do you have an interest in smoking and housing?

Action on Smoking and Health are currently setting up a working group looking into methods to reduce the harms from smoking in the home, which will include secondhand smoke exposure, smoke drift, fire safety, and illicit tobacco sales.

The working group will include national representation from public health and housing organisations and are keen to identify some expert input from tenants associations, and your tenants.

Your expertise in this area will be valuable in shaping the cross-sector policy report and the cross-sector commitments to reduce smoking in the home.

They're looking for individuals who might be:

  • Happy to be part of initial stakeholder interviews over the phone
  • Can provide examples of local practice that relate to smoking and housing – has anyone had any engagement with landlords or tenants around issues relating to smoking, e.g. enforcement of smokefree communal areas, management of any cigarette and/or e-cigarette policies, use of existing powers by landlords to address illicit tobacco sales or any other relevant smoking activities
  • Interested in participating in the national working group

If you are interested please reply to Karen.Buckley@ash.org.uk for an initial informal chat.
