Hull City Council
Nomination story
After the formation of the Tenants’ Forum in 2004, Maureen was elected as the very first Chair of the Forum and has also been elected as the most recent Chair, so a nice round circle. Maureen has been involved in a number of key activities with the Housing Service, and she is an advocate of “grassroots” level tenant involvement. Maureen has contributed valuable feedback to a number of projects, some of which include the conversion of one-bedroom bungalows to form a sleep over room, the Housing Academy (which is a 14-week course for tenants and staff), as well as a number of Scrutiny Panel inspections. Maureen has represented Hull City Council’s Housing Service at a number of conferences, including the Housing 2024 Conference in Manchester, where she took part in a panel on how tenant board members can add value to the governance of an organisation. Locally in Hull, Maureen is playing an active part in representing the voice of tenants at the Neighbourhoods and Housing Service Improvement Board (which is attended by Directors and Senior Management, along with the Chief Executive and the Portfolio Holder), as well as the Council’s Communities, Culture and Leisure Scrutiny Commission.
