Garden Organic Consultation event - share your views

Tpas are inviting members to give their thoughts and views on a new project from our friends at Garden Organic.

Come along to this informative session to not only hear more,  but help Garden Organic to shape the idea before launch so it absolutely hits the mark. Open to all community and engagement staff and involved tenants, if you are working with communities and have an interest in doing more on the green and organic agenda then they would love your input!

Background

Garden Organic has been working with Tpas, HACT, HQN and Housing Associations across the UK to develop a program to empower people to garden and enjoy the green spaces available to them – from shared green spaces to back gardens, front gardens or balconies. The ultimate aim would be to enable people all over the country to nurture land and soil in the best way to support biodiversity, whilst boosting their own health and wellbeing, learning new skills and coming together around growing food and flowers.

To do this, we want to create a network of Growing Buddies – enthusiastic people who either already know a bit about growing or are keen to learn and who will introduce or develop growing clubs in housing association places/spaces. The Growing Buddies could be housing association estate, or community staff, and/or individual tenants. We would recommend that buddies work in pairs as a minimum, but they may form their own team of buddies depending on the size of their local community.

Garden Organic would offer relevant, practical support to Growing Buddies and their communities in the form of a toolkit, webinars and activities. These will be aimed at building confidence, encouraging participation and inspiring people to get growing. We’d love to also deliver in-person support via courses in food growing, composting and general gardening skills, but this would take longer and cost more to mobilize.

We want to ensure that any programme we run is fit for purpose, meets the needs of housing associations and communities in particular, and helps deliver on addressing some of the major challenges facing society.

Therefore, we’d like to come together with some key people to test this out so we can then offer it as a product to all Tpas members by late autumn, in time for the early adopters to be getting started in spring next year.
