Using Behavioural Insights to Increase Involvement

Why tenants don't engage and what do do about it - increasing tenant engagement using behavioural science.

Trainer

Anna O'Halloran (Subject to change)

Overview

Many social landlords are working hard to hear the tenant voice but often find that engagement comes from the same small group of residents. Communications are sent and opportunities are offered, yet response rates remain low.

This course explores why this happens and what can be done differently.

Using behavioural science (often known as 'nudge), the session will show how small changes in how services and communications are designed can make it easier for more tenants to engage and get involved.

Further details

This practical sessions introduces behavioural science through real examples from social housing and beyond.

It will explore how:

  • Communicatins can be redisigned to make them more engaging and harder to ignore
  • Data can be used to better understand and reach different groups of tenants
  • Opportunities for involvement can be framed in ways that feel more relevant and accessible

The course will also draw on findings from the Tpas Trailblazer Project: 'The Engagement Maximiser', alongside real-world examples and trials that have successfully increased participation.

What will participants learn?

  • Why tenants don't always engage, even when opportunities are available
  • How behavioural science explains real-world decision-making
