Tpas Goes to Sweden

Tuesday 30th of April 2024

Tpas is honoured to have been invited on a special study tour to Stockholm in May, held by the National Housing Maintenance Forum.

Policy and Insight Manager Caritas Charles will be the lucky Tpas staff member going along to help give an engagement perspective to some of the findings. Though it looks set to be a fun trip, Caritas will be working hard writing blogs and completing a series of videos that we hope to show in future ezines. The blogs and vlogs will hopefully give you a flavour of what’s covered in the study trip.  Find out more below about his trip:

Tenant Engagement

Caritas will hopefully have an opportunity to have an interview with a representative from the Swedish Tenants Union to discuss all things engagement.  This will look at the different Swedish approach, including how tenants collectively negotiate on rent setting.

The group will also meet with Stockholm community development experts ElectriCity who specialise in developing partnerships with communities, and companies developing imaginative community projects and initiatives.

New Homes

We will hear about the ambitious “million homes” housebuilding programme Sweden undertook in the 70s and the challenges faced by the country today.

Public Housing

We will have a chance to hear about “public housing” (the Swedish name for Social Housing) and the work that is going on with regards to Net Zero, Community Engagement and Asset Management.

Environment

The group will be visiting the award winning “Eco City” of Hammerby Sjöstad” and look at innovative Net Zero design concepts. The group will also be visiting the Royal Seaport, the largest domestic and commercial development in Europe, to see how they are using modern technology to deliver greener housebuilding.

Look out for updates from Caritas during the trip on social media between the 14th and 17th May 2024, and full coverage of the trip, which will be in future editions of Ezine.
