Community partners hail Gloucester City Homes Community Impact Day a brilliant success

On Friday 13th September, Gloucester City Homes (GCH) held another hugely successful Community Impact Day with over 140 members of staff and partners turning their hands to a range of community projects across Gloucester.
The projects undertaken were:
- Tredworth Infant School Creation of outdoor wildlife area
- Westgate Gardening and planting in the area
- The Cavern (Treasure Seekers) Updating the entrance and courtyard areas including building a ramp for wheelchair access
- The Heritage Hub Creation of a wildlife garden
- The Spring Centre Redecoration and improvements to the inside and outside areas
- Gloucester City Mission Cooking and serving a roast dinner and selection of puddings
- Matson Rose Garden Gardening and planting to rejuvenate the area
- Caridas House and Nova House Homeless Accommodation Improvements to the garden areas including building planters
Ashley Green, Chief Executive at GCH commented; “Friday was a really successful day and I am really pleased to hear how impressed residents and our partners have been with the work that was undertaken.”
Anita Pope, Director of Housing and Communities at GCH stated; “The aim of the day was to make an impact to community facilities for the benefit of our tenants and wider communities and we certainly achieved that as we made a positive difference across the City. We hope our tenants and residents can enjoy the improvements made.”
Sarah Woodridge, Care Services Manager at The Spring Centre who provides care and support to children and young people with disabilities and their families said; “We really appreciate all the work that GCH have done for us because we have never had anything like this done for us before. We are a small charity and our time is taken up providing services for children and young people. We do not receive any funding and rely on donations and fundraising so this work is going to make a huge difference.”
Jan Burn, Director at Kingfisher Treasure Seekers, an organisation supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged people commented; “This work makes all the difference in the world, before it was not a pretty sight and it has been completely transformed. Often people who access our services are the most vulnerable, so we want to show that someone cares enough to go that extra mile for them. The new ramp is going to be a legacy as it provides much needed wheelchair access and allows us to be open to everyone. Your team worked really hard and we can’t thank you enough.”
Sarah Driver, Head Teacher at Tredworth Infant School added; “On behalf of the children, staff and trustees I want to say a huge thank you to GCH for this amazingly generous project. We are thrilled to have been given this opportunity and it allows our children to access the outdoor learning space in a special way. We are enhancing the play provision at the school and this goes a long way to supporting our children in terms of their attainment, play and our curriculum. A huge thanks to everybody involved for their hard work.”
