Gentoo event celebrates the achievements of involved customers

Monday 15th of January 2018

Held at their Head Office in Sunderland on 12 December, the event was attended by more than 45 customers alongside representatives from Gentoo’s Customer and Community Team.  Newly appointed Interim Chief Executive, David Jepson and Gentoo’s Chairman, Keith Loraine OBE also attended, spending time chatting to involved customers about the difference they make.

The event was held not only to say ‘thank you’ but to give customers the opportunity to network with other customers.

Lucy Malarkey, Deputy Director, Gentoo said: “At Gentoo our customers are at the heart of everything we do. Over the past year more than 75 customers have given their time to help us improve our services and make a difference to people’s lives. We held this event to say a huge thank and to celebrate the impact they have made in the local community. Involved and engaged customers are vital in helping us to build strong and vibrant communities”.

Margaret Stafford an Involved customer who attended the event said: “I really enjoyed this event as it gave me the chance to meet up with staff and other volunteers. A lot of thought and effort had gone into it. It was really interesting and motivating to hear about the impact we had made over the last 6 months.”

Over the past 6-months customers have helped to allocate almost £20,000 in funding to support local communities, helped to make service improvements and undertook a number of estate inspections. Gentoo’s community volunteers also gave more than 840 hours of their time to help make a difference.

Gentoo’s choice-based engagement model provides a variety of ways for customers to get involved - from community volunteering, helping to improve services or working with others to make local area improvements there is something to suit everyone.
