Tpas supports Cardo in new Social Housing Consumer Standards Awareness Training

Tpas was delighted to support Cardo in the development of its new Social Housing Consumer Standards Awareness Training, officially launched on 14 July 2026 at a special event at the House of Lords by Jane Nelson, Executive Chair of Cardo, and Alison Inman, Chair of Tpas.
The training has been designed to help housing professionals understand the Consumer Standards and their practical application in delivering services that are safe, transparent and focused on residents.
As the sector continues to respond to increased consumer regulation, there is a growing need for learning opportunities that help organisations move beyond simply understanding the standards to embedding them in day-to-day practice.
The programme uses real-life scenarios, case studies and practical examples to demonstrate how the standards apply in everyday roles and why everyone has a part to play in delivering positive outcomes for residents.
Tpas worked closely with Cardo to review and shape the content, ensuring strong alignment with both the Regulator of Social Housing's Consumer Standards and the Tpas National Tenant Engagement Standards. Our focus was on making sure the training reflects current regulatory expectations while also embedding the principles that underpin meaningful tenant engagement.
One of the most encouraging aspects of this initiative is its broad appeal. The training is aimed not only at registered providers but also at contractors and supply chain partners, recognising that delivering excellent resident outcomes is a shared responsibility across the housing sector.
The House of Lords launch highlighted the importance of collaboration and a collective commitment to embedding the Consumer Standards within everyday behaviours and decision-making.
For Tpas, this reflects an important principle: meaningful resident engagement should not sit within a single team or function. It should be understood and championed by everyone involved in delivering services to tenants and residents.
